Mario Kart DS is one of the most popular racing games around, and now DS players can enjoy all the fun of Nintendo’s racing game. Once again, Mario, Luigi, the Princess, and their friends and enemies take to the go-cart track and try to outrace each other by any means possible including attacking each other with weapons. There are 32 different tracks to race on, many of which aren’t available until previous tracks have been conquered. Four of the grand prix feature brand new tracks, while the other four are composed of 16 courses from previous Mario Kart DS games, including the very first Super NES game. Each grand prix can be raced in either 50cc, 100cc, or 150cc classes, with the 150cc class being the most difficult. Only eight characters are available at the beginning, but many more can be unlocked as players rack up the points and win gold medals. Each racer has different stats that affect racing. The bigger racers, for example, have a higher weight and won’t be able to get up to full speed as quickly as some of the smaller racers. Item score, too, is important because it reflects how likely it is that a racer will get a powerful item from a box. A racer with a low item score will rarely get a powerful item like a Bob-omb or Bullet Bill. Mario Kart DS for the DS brings all of the great Mario Kart DS racing action to the handheld platform.
