    Description
You're inside the fortress planet Zebes. The planet of endless secret passageways where the Metroid are multiplying. Left alone the Metroid are harmless. But in the wrong hands they could destroy the Galaxy. It's up to you to prevent the Mother Brain that controls Zebes from using the Metroid for evil purposes. But that won't be easy. You'll have to use your spacesuit to absorb valuable energy for your search to gain the use of power items like the Ice Beam, Wave Beam, High Jump Boots and Varia. If you survive, it will be you and your acquired powers against the Mother Brain.

Pirates have stolen and unknown life-form, recently discovered on the planet SR388. The life-form, called 'Metroid', is in a state of suspended animation, and according to analysis, was the cause of the complete destruction of SR388. Let loose, the alien could destroy countless other systems.

The pirates have taken the being to the planet Zebes, and are counter-attacking the Galactic Federations attacks. It is up to you, as the space Bounty Hunter Samus Aran, to find your way into the planets core, destroy the pirates and take back the alien before the pirates complete their plans of world destruction.

As a cyborg, Samus can use a range of weapons and defense systems to destroy the enemy. She can also absorb enemies powers to increase her own. Using her weapons and special abilities, you must find your way to the central chamber and destroy the mother brain, the planets main base.

    When you finish the game

When you finish the game, and after watching the ending and credits, you will begin an enhanced game, where you're at the start as usual, except you keep your main powerups except energy & missiles. You get to keep (if you had when you finished the game):
    :Round Ball (aka Maru Mari)
    :Long Beam
    :Bombs
    :High Jump
    :Screw Attack
    :Varia Suit
    :Ice Beam / Wave Beam
This will also make it easier to get the better endings, since you won't have to spend the time getting these again, and it will be easier to get the earlier Energy Tanks and Missile Packs, since you'll be a lot more powerful than when you did this the first time.
