EA Sport’s popular NBA LIVE series returns with the 2006 version, NBA LIVE 06 for the Game Cube. This time around, the game adds new superstar moves, tweaks to several of its gameplay modes, and an updated roster that includes all of today’s stars. The biggest addition to NBA LIVE 06 are the superstar abilities. Big name stars like Shaq or Kobe Bryant can now perform superstar moves that can turn the tide of the game quickly. There are six different superstar categories: scorers, high flyers, stoppers, playmakers, power players, and sharpshooters. Each star can switch between the different categories if he has the required abilities. Dynasty mode has had several new additions. Players can now hire assistant coaches and scouts to help train and recruit new players. Each of these assistants or scouts has their own stats that affect what types of players they can recruit. Assistant coaches can also handle training and other chores during the season, freeing players up to concentrate on the team as a whole. Commentary for the 2006 version is handled by returning commentator Marv Albert and newcomer Steve Kerr. NBA LIVE 06 includes all of the modes the previous game did, including slam dunk contests, quick game, season, and multiplayer modes, which can support up to four players at a time. Basketball fans who have followed the NBA LIVE series and newcomers who are looking for a new game of hoops will enjoy the game’s new superstar moves, updated modes, and fun gameplay.
