Description
WWF Rage in the Cage (WWF Mania Tour in Japan) is a professional wrestling video game released in December 1993 for the Sega CD gaming system. It was the first WWF game to feature actual video footage in the form of FMV
clips seen in the game's opening video, as well clips of the wrestlers'
signature moves that can be viewed on the wrestler select screen, and
clips that play of the player's wrestler celebrating upon completion of
the Tournament mode. In addition, the game features audio introductions
by Howard Finkel and rants between the competitors prior to the matches. Rage in the Cage features 20 wrestlers, the most seen in a WWF game up to that time (this number would not be surpassed until WWF Attitude was released six years later).
The gameplay engine and graphic style are the same as in WWF Royal Rumble for SNES and Sega Genesis.
Also, much like in Royal Rumble, all featured wrestlers have their
signature finishing moves. Modes of play include One Fall (a standard
wrestling match won by pinfall or count-out), Brawl (no holds barred,
no count-out, and the match ends when one wrestler completely depletes
the other's energy), Cage Match
(no holds barred match where victory is achieved by escaping the cage),
and Tournament (select one wrestler and defeat the rest in a series of
One Fall matches to become WWF Champion). There are no tag team modes, despite the inclusion of actual tag teams in The Headshrinkers, Money Inc., and The Nasty Boys.
