The deadliest form of kung fu (from the game's story) is the ~Wu-Tang style. It had been the study of a group of rebel masters who taught their art to the rest of the world through schools and community, until the ~Shaolin Temple cast them out. This left the ~Wu-Tang members in hiding and secretly passing down their knowledge from generation to generation.
Mong Zhu seeks this lost discipline so that he can give his legions the power to enslave the free world. His search begins in ~Shaolin, ~New York (a.k.a. ~Staten Island), where
Zhu's last ~Wu-Tang master adversary,
Xin, had come to rest.
Wu-Tang: Shaolin Style's Story Mode starts you off in a courtyard area in ~New York called the ~Hub, which looks like an inner city intersection with four separate alleyways. Going through these "doors" allows one to fight specific enemies from the
Mong Zhu clan. You earn what are called "chambers" whenever you overcome challenges by successfully demonstrating ~Shaolin skills and learning many fighting styles as you progress to become a ~Wu-Tang master. The Chambers Screen displays filled circles for those chambers that you've collected (36 in all), with blinking ones as the most current. Complete a set of these chambers and you'll unlock Secrets -- 50 fatality sequences, characters, arenas, game modes, concept art, and other special features.
The Versus Mode is basically a free-for-all brawl where up to four human or computer-controlled characters can play at the same time. Players can also join in through the use of the ~Multi-Tap Adaptable accessory. Only the first player can change options and arena selection. Your character also can have his handicap adjusted: negative, normal, and positive.
When you're ready to begin you can select from two types of games. The Original mode gives each character a specific number of lives, and the winner is the last one standing. The Advanced mode is a "deathmatch" game where the first player or team to reach the kill limit is declared the winner. There's even a Practice mode similar to the
Tekken-style format.
