Following the plot of the movie, THQs Constantine for the PS2 is a third-person shooter following the adventures of John Constantine and his battle against the forces of hell. The quick-paced game has players shooting demons and casting spells to rid the world of evil. Constantine mainly relies on one of several guns to defeat his foes, including a shotgun, pistol, and a nail gun. He can also equip secondary weapons like holy water to assist in dispatching demons. Finally, he can cast spells that obliterate several enemies at once, though casting requires players to correctly enter a sequence of button presses while avoiding enemies. While most demons just need to be shot until the fall, some possessed entities must be cleansed by driving the demon out, then destroying it. There are also a number of boss battles awaiting Constantine throughout the 14 levels of the game. The game also requires puzzle-solving skills. During each level, Constantine will come across pools of water that he can use to travel between earth and hell. Walls or obstacles moved in one realm will move in the other, so it’s often necessary to travel between the two in order to move forward. Fans of the Constantine movie won’t want to miss the opportunity to follow Constantine through the twists and turns of his battle. Shooter fans will also enjoy the game, even if they haven’t seen the film.
